1.0.4, Breja, David Brevik, Diablo 3, Facebook, Jay Wilson, Jen, Levels, Nevik, Paragon, Patch

In this episode, Breja rejoins the cast after surviving a HOT, fun-filled vacation in the magical land of California. As usual we begin the show discussing what we’ve been up in-game: Jen is loving Act III, Breja is loving the Puke Doctor changes in 1.0.4 and Nevik has been playing just a wee-bit … err okay, a metric ton.

Quick note: You will notice that the audio quality is a little … skype’sh every now and then. We had a locally recorded track decide that it didn’t want to cooperate so we had to use the master track as recorded through skype. It’s still listenable, but there will be audio imperfections from time-to-time.

In this episode:

* We read, and respond to, the emails we’ve received resulting in lengthy discussions on a wide variety of topics. This batch came from: Chris, Commander Bird, St. Motorspark and Sangera. Thank you for your emails! Keep them coming!

* We discuss our impressions of patch 1.0.4 touching upon some of the class and system changes. Check out the patch notes as well as Blizzard’s blog post about the Paragon Leveling system!

* On a more sour note, as prompted by an email from Sangera, we discuss the after-math of Jay Wilson saying something on Facebook that he wishes he didn’t. You can read his apology here and watch the interview with David Brevik here which prompted the whole situation to happen.

Links for you to Visit:

* If you’re wondering what the Paragon leveling experience requirements would look like as a pie-chart Diablofans user Vomica (he’s even a puke doctor!) has delivered. You can check it out here.

* Flux over at diablo.incgamers has comprised a historical look at the design philosophies behind the level cap in contrast to the decision to go forward with the Paragon Leveling system.

* SYLbarefoot, a fellow Soulstoner, has started up his own podcast with a friend called Step Your Geek Up! It’s a fun show focusing on comics, video games, movies, and everything else that would interest us geeks. Give it a listen, we’re positive that you’ll enjoy it, but do keep in mind that there is occasionally language.

* Our good friend Rho, devout Maghda-lover, is back in the Diablo fold and he’s done something crazy. What did he do? Well go check out his post on his blog, Realm Maintenance, and find out!

* We somehow let these Diablo 3 class stories slip through our fingers. They’re great reads that will help flesh out the histories and motivations of each character class in the game. Check out the Wizard, Barbarian, Monk, Demon Hunter and Puke Doctor short stories!

* St. Motorspark, a new listener, provided us with a link to his Diablo 3 profile in case we were curious about what a tank doctor would look like.

* Diablo 3 is now FREE to play!! … up to level 13! If you’ve been holding out on picking up the game you can now check it out obligation free. We highly encourage everyone sitting-on-the-fence to take the plunge. Come join us!

In this episode, Nevik and Jen are joined by Lanntonio to fill in for Breja while he was off in the Magic Kingdom Disney’ng it up. We begin the show as we usually do and discuss what we’ve been up to in-game: Jen finally downed Belial! Yay! Nevik pushed his monk to level 60 and has been playing his hardcore wizard, and Lanntonio has succumb to the barbarian, fully almost completely.

Check out Audible for your FREE, no obligation 30 day trial including a free 1 credit book. Go to bit.ly/sspbook to start your trial today!

In this episode:

* We read, and respond to, another mountain of email! We are continually honored and touched to receive your emails, keep them coming! This batch came from: Kurly, Dr Mojo, Naer, Collosus, Commander Bird and Ice Falcon.

* Spurred on by multiple emails the topic of the auction house is brought up quite a bit including its impact on our gameplay as well as some tips on using it.

* We talk about the recent security breach of Blizzard’s networks and what steps everyone should take to make sure that their battle.net account is secure.

* We got our first sneak peak into patch 1.0.4 with the General Systems Preview provided to us by Senior Technical Game Designer Wyatt Cheng. It has the hosts pretty excited for what is to come, how about you?

Links for you to Visit:

* Dr Mojo and friends put together a hilarious “documentary” of a witch doctor coping and living with married life in suburbia. Nevik and Jen found it hilarious though not particularly appropriate for small child, watch at your own discretion.

You can find more from Dr Mojo on his website, twitter, and youtube channel.

* Our good friend Rho has a new blog where you can find the final two installments (for now) of his thoughts and opinions on Act IV and epilogue of Diablo 3. As stated previously, his thoughts are spoiler-ridden so read at your discretion.

* With Rho’s opinions of Diablo 3′s story now concluded, it would also be a good time to share Matthew Rossi’s thoughts once more as a counter-point.

* With the release of the character profiles a new website as sprung into existence utilizing the profile API to generate worldwide player rankings. Visit DiabloProgress.com to see where you stack up!

* Speaking of the character profiles going live, Nevik wrote up an article about the feature for our blog. Check it out!

* Flux over at Diablo incgamers wrote an interesting article comparing the itemization differences between legendary helms in Diablo II and III. Definitely some food for thought.

Diablo Gaming Night #5

10 Friday Aug 2012

Did you know that we held our fifth gaming night on Friday August 3rd? No? It seems not many did, but no need to worry, the night was recorded and is now available for your ears to consume.

This time we decided to try something different and get HARDCORE. That’s right, we played hardcore characters from level 1 with the added stipulation that only normal gear could be equipped. Sounds insane right? Well there was a reason for the madness as the last standing hardcore character would be crowned the victor and win a handsome prize!

We will surely run with this rule set for a future gaming night, but possibly with a few more caveats to make sure we all die in a more timely manner and make things even more interesting. Oh, and did we mention that Tinokk streamed the night on Twitch.tv and you can watch the replay here?

Speaking of future gaming nights, we have already determined when our sixth gaming night will occur. Gaming Night #6 will happen Friday August 17th at approximately 7pm Pacific, 10pm Eastern (or Saturday at noon for our Eastern Australian friends). Gaming Night #6 will also be a retro gaming night as we will be venturing once more in Diablo 2.

Don’t have Diablo 2? No need to worry, you’re still more than welcome to join us on Mumble while playing Diablo 3, or anything else. We love to have fun with our listeners so don’t be shy!

Until then sit back, crack open a cold beverage and enjoy our HARDCORE gaming night challenge!

Character Profiles Now Live!

06 Monday Aug 2012

While Blizzard’s definition of “shortly after launch” turned into two and a half months, it is still fantastic to finally have the character profiles live on the web. Now you can snoop dig a lot deeper into how your friends are doing in Diablo 3 without having to be logged into the Diablo 3 client.

Now you can peruse all of your friend’s characters including each character’s progression, skills, equipped gear, their follower’s gear (!), and the level of their artisans. Imagine the fun you can have the next time you see them and critique the fact that their followers gear is severely lacking. Not creepy at all. Nope.

If you want to take a look at your own profile use these following steps:

  1. Navigate to the Diablo 3 web page.
  2. Click on the profile/login box underneath the search bar on the right side.
  3. Log in to your battle.net account.
  4. Click on your character/account name.
  5. Click on Manage Characters (if you’re a WoW player this will likely apply to you).
  6. Select your Battletag and presto, you’ve pulled up your D3 profile.

From your profile you’ll be able to see all of your friends at a glace by clicking on the Friends tab. Don’t worry, this tab is locked to everyone but yourself so you don’t have to worry about people snooping through your friends list.

Anyhoo, feel free to check out Nevik’s, Breja’s, Lanntonio’s and/or Jen’s profiles. Hopefully soon they’ll add achievements to the profiles and maybe even gear sets (normally Nevik’s wizard is in her farming gear). Let us know what you think about this feature by commenting on this post, or emailing the show!

In this GLORIOUS! twentieth episode Nevik, Breja and Jen are joined once more by our fourth musketeer, Lanntonio, to shake things up a bit. We start off the show discussing what we all have been up to in and out of game before tackling another healthy dose of emails as well as a pair of audio submissions. We also give our reactions to Mike Morhaime’s letter to us … err … the ravenous Diablo 3 fans.

Check out Audible for your FREE, no obligation 30 day trial including a free 1 credit book. Go to bit.ly/sspbook to start your trial today!

In this episode:

* We received not one but TWO voice mails from our good friend Rho and the Papa Kangaroo himself, Medros. Each voice mail posed a really good question and sparked a healthy discussion.

* We read, and respond to, another mountain of email! Keep them coming! This batch came from: Silent, Commander Bird, Chad, John, Smokimus, and Master Do.

* We announced the winner of our screenshot contest, Str8UpJack! Here is his winning screenshot!

Links for you to Visit:

* Silent recommended a humorous video about the infamous Error 37. Check it out here!

* Our good friend Rho has updated his on-going blog series about the Sad Story of Diablo 3 with his thoughts on Act II and Act III. It should go without warning, but his impressions are spoiler-ridden so read at your discretion.

* Nevik mentioned a new resource site, Diablo 3 Market Watch, to help keep track of the Diablo 3 gold auction house trends.

* As part of our discussion resulting from Medros’ voice mail Lanntonio mentioned a video by Kripparrian where he (Kripparrian) gives ideas and tips for Blizzard to implement to improve Diablo 3′s “end game.”
